"SISTERS IN ISLAM" PATUT BUANG "ISLAM"
oleh: Ramli Abdul Rahim
To begin with, I don't know and I have never met in person with anyone of them, a group of women who
might have perceived themselves to be the champion
of Islam and called themselves "Sisters In Islam".
As far as I can remember I have seen one of them, three or four years back on tv, without putting on
hijab (tudung) of course ( I don't know if she is wearing now) in one of the talk shows, definitely,
talking about Islam. It's very ironic isn't it?
Of late, Sisters In Islam's views have been given
appropriate venues in Malaysian press and even in
Malaysia.kini.
A
Muslim Brother from Cheras says the views
expounded by this group of six women just cannot be taken seriously especially Muslims because the level
of their religious knowledge can be read through their pieces. And further more, these English
educated women used to base their views on the
English translation of the Holy Quran. According tohim, none of these sisters has gone to any
established Islamic universities and therefore most of the time their views are always vague and
secular-based in nature.
The beauty of this group, it reacts so fast to any
issue pertaining to women as if they are the saviourof women's dignity. Muslims in particular. But in
the act they are actually inflicting damages toIslam with their unfounded statements by quoting few
verses from the Holy Quran but interpretted
differently.
I am of
the opinon, if you don't know just keep
quiet. Islam is a religion that is ordained and meant to be followed and whatever is being revealed
to our Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) it is for
the good of mankind.
What the so-called Sisters In Islam have done all
this while is against the odds. The verse which
means" There is no compulsion in Islam" is meant for
disbelievers. They are at their liberty for their submission to Islam. But once you have uttered the
kalimah of Syahadah you are bound by the syariah.
It's good to be sensitive because it's our duty as Muslims to guard Islam with whatever cost. Be it
your life. But by presenting lopsided views on Islam, it won't do you any good. Yes! I am
pinpointing at Sisters In Islam. It's high time for this group to diagnose themeselves and do a deep
soul searching. Are they writing for the sake of
Allah (li mardhatillah) or are they appeasing anybody on this planet earth?
The perculiarity of this this group can be gauged
from the way they aired their views on the arrest of
three (Muslim) girls who were involved in the beauty contest, the Hudud, Aurah, and lately on rape cases.
We can be very apologetic but we can't condone "al-mungkar' infront of our very eyes.
May be it's not too late for them to "drop" the word Islam from their entity. Sisters In Islam is just
doing a disservice to Islam.
