to ask mosques to spread the holiday mood
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 (AFP) - Malaysia's tourism minister said
Tuesday he would ask mosques to spread the message that holidays are
good for you.
Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir, who is striving to promote domestic tourism,
said the campaign would aim to persuade rural residents that Islam
encourages holiday-making to relax the mind and body and strengthen
Muslim brotherhood.
"As such I shall request mosques to incorporate this fact in Friday
sermons and for other religious institutions to do likewise," the official
Bernama news agency quoted him as saying.
Abdul Kadir said he would also approach religious institutions to draw up
programmes to stress the importance of holiday tours.
The minister also urged domestic tour agencies to offer attractive
packages to rural residents through community leaders.
Just over half the population are Muslim Malays.
